Silk Sonic - Leave the Door Open
The pandemic is still in effect, but to keep us sane Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars joined forces to create their new band: Silk Sonic. They released their debut single “Leave the Door Open,” and I play it once a day just to fuel my soul.
Imagine you’re two drinks in at a lounge on a Friday night. You’re single and dressed in your finest threads. The band is luring you to the dance floor…
The single invites us into a time machine that sends us back to the ‘70s. Silk Sonic is exactly what its name entails: smooth, sexy sounds. Paak woos us in the verses with his slightly raspy, super suave vocals accompanied by Mars’ seductive ad libs. Silk Sonic does an incredible job in layering the drums and congas that drive the tempo, the chimes that accentuate the sweet spots of the keys, the strings that add the right amount of drama, and the subtle bass that keeps it funky.
“Leave the Door Open” is a gentleman’s booty call. They brought the sexiness of “Versace on the Floor” and kept it PG. Everyone loves the chase, but Paak and Mars keep it classy and turn the chase into an invitation. With influences by The Temptations, The Spinners, and The Delfonics, the single has an oldies feel that makes it timeless. I dare you to try to listen to this without snapping or body rolling (trust me, it’s impossible).
